One month to Christmas -inspiration x 5


I truly cannot believe that Christmas is here in one month – why the last months of the year always seem to fly by so fast? Christmas in by no means my favorite holiday of the year, and I love doing different DIY projects for the holiday season. I make Christmas cards every year myself, add some decoration, spend ridiculous amount of time designing how to pack gifts, make advent calendar, door wreath, candle and flower arrangements and and and..the list is endless! So what I try to say is, that I love the holiday season and all the small projects you can do around it. But the sad part of this year is, that I am not having actual home, where to do all these projects, and all my crafting materials are in Finland. So I still need to figure out, if I can do something, or is this going to be the first project free holiday for me in years. How sad is that?


As today is Thursday I decided to do a little combination of throwback Thursday and Christmas inspiration. I listed here from last year few DIY project I did, and two small gift ideas, as many of us are having a lot small Christmas parties the upcoming weeks.

Sunday food – Spelt gnocchi with pumpkin sauce


I don’t know about you, but I connect some dishes to a specific weekday. Like example easy and maybe little ‘unhealthy’ foods like nachos are Saturday food and slow cooked, little ‘better’ dishes are Sunday food. Does this sound totally crazy or are you doing the same? Nevertheless, today I am sharing a recipe which for me is definitely a Sunday food –  home made spelt gnocchi with pumpkin sauce.


Gnocchi is from my opinion delicious, yet so underrated. Some have been eating only the ready made version from a supermarket, others are every now and then dreaming that one delicious moment in Italy and wondering what was it you actually were eating, while the rest have never ever even heard about gnocchi. And then there are us, who few times a year spend one long Sunday afternoon making gnocchi from the scratch. It sounds for many like a super difficult dish to make, with way too many steps, but actually it is easier than you could think. And I could easily see this as a food, you do together with your friends or family, as then you can all participate and spend a fun moment together.


Spelt gnocchi with pumpkin sauce

Serves 4 // time 60 + 120 min. // dairy free



  • 1 kg potatoes
  • 3-4 dl spelt flour
  • 80 g Parmesan cheese
  • 10 ml salt
  • 5 ml black pepper
  • 2,5 ml nutmeg
  • olive oil

Pumpkin sauce

  • 500-600 g pumpkin (I used the classical sugar pumpkin)
  • olive oil
  • 1 onion
  • 3 garlic gloves
  • 200 ml cooking cream (normal cooking cream or soy / oat cream)
  • 250 ml water + 30 ml organic vegetable bouillon powder
  • 30 ml butter
  • fresh sage
  • fresh thyme
  • salt

+ bacon



BOIL unpeeled potatoes until done

PEEL the warm potatoes (I used fork to hold the potato when I was peeling them)

STRAIN or squeeze peeled potatoes through a sieve, using a spoon. More warm the potatoes are, more easy it is to do this

LET the potato pyre cool down in the fridge

PREHEAT the oven into 180 degrees (C)

CUT the pumpkin into smaller pieces (approximately 2 cm)

PLACE the slices into a baking tray cover with baking paper, and add little olive oil in the top

ROAST until the slices look golden – around 45 minutes depending how thick the slices are

PEEL the slices and make a puree

FRY cut onion and crushed garlic in a butter

ADD pumpkin pyre, herbs, water and the vegetable bouillon powder and the cream

LET boil for 15 minutes

ADD all the other ingredients and MIX

WORK the dough with a kitchen machine, or by your hands few minutes, until the dough starts to be dense and does not stick to your hands

SPLIT the dough into smaller parts and ROLL finger-thick rods.

CUT the rods into “pillow shaped” two centimeter long pieces. You may want to press them with a fork pattern, so that later the sauce sticks.

BOIL water in a big pot and season with salt

COOK small portions of gnocchi in a time. They are ready when they float to the top. This takes only 3-4 minutes

LIFT them into a bowl with a skimmer, and mix with a small amount of olive oil.

HEAT up the pumpkin sauce and fry bacon

SERVE with fresh thyme and Parmesan



I want to point out, that normally gnocchi is made from regular wheat flour, but I waned to try something different here. I used organic spelt flour, and the end results was not as delicious as it could have been. Spelt has a quite strong taste from my opinion, and you have to be even more careful on getting the right amount of flour, as the texture is little different. The taste was good, but you can definitely taste the spelt and even though I really like it, here it was not the best decision.  So feel free to use wheat flour instead, as the recipe will work with that also.



Tip! You can make a lot at once and then freeze the ones you don’t want to eat. But freeze then raw, and place a baking paper between layers when you place them in a box. This way it is easier for you to use them later.

Rainy afternoon in Luxembourg


Finally the past days I have had time to start going through the photos I took during the autumn holiday we did with Lady A last month – there is almost 900 photos once again! So you can imagine it takes quite a lot time to go through them all, then edit the ones I want to use and last, but not least write stories around the photos. I hate when I cannot publish in real time the stories (or even in few days), I really need to start to think solutions to this. But better late than never, so I hope you are ready to some stories from Luxembourg and Antwerp the upcoming weeks. And as today is rainy day, I will start the stories from the rainy afternoon we spend in Luxembourg wondering around contemporary art museum MUDAM.



MUDAM was in so many ways a positive surprise. The building itself is interesting, as the architecture brings together modern elements in a environment which breaths nature and history. The way the different parts of the museum were used for the ongoing exhibition was creative (you will find surprising solutions) and same time it did not feel like the museum was crammed with art, even though there was so much to see. And as the different rooms are so spacious, it gives a perfect opportunity to show massive installations. The museums is in a walking distance from the historical center of Luxembourg, and definitely a must do thing if you like contemporary arts.




Delf – gas Cannisters



I had not done any research about the ongoing exhibition, so I basically had no expectations when we entered to the museum. Outside of the museum there was a huge advertisement about the Wim Delvoye exhibition, but to be honest, it did not look appealing at all. So we decided to go in for a quick look and then decide if enter or not – luckily we did! For the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the museum, Mudam invited Belgium artist Wim Delvoye to present his wide work from his 25 years of artistic production. Interestingly he also marked the museums opening 10 years a go, and has a strong relationship to Luxembourg. The exhibition is open till 8. of January 2017, and is accompanied by work of Cristina Lucas till 14. of May 2017.



I had not heard about Wim Delvoye before, and I have to say I think I will never forget his work. His work is so shameless and you are not sure if you should be looking away or stare. The topics are all appealing, and the amount of different techniques he uses is incredible. How can one master drawing, sculptures, photography, movies, painting and so many other interesting techniques? His work brings together art, popular culture, contemporary, old, new and everything between. And I felt that more you look the work he has done, read the description and then look again the work, more you see how deep the works actually go. Many times the work of Delvoye turns useful everyday objects into something that is carrying totally different value as a pieces of art. Delvoye describes his own approach to art as “local” and “global” so “glocal”.

The Tyres of Delvoye are a play between craft and industry. Industry is aspiring to serial production with standardized products, craftsmanship creates uniqueness. Interestingly the artist had the tires made in China, so that the value of work can be discussed. These kind of  deeper ideologies, interesting materials and creating contrast can be see in many of his works. Just what I like in art – something deeper!

The cafeteria in the museum was breathtakingly beautiful! I got a little Scandinavian wibe from it, and it surely was beautiful place to drink you coffee. But after all morning traveling, and eating not too much, this was surely not the best place to have your afternoon brake foodwise. There is not too much selection and prices are ridiculous.

Before entering the clockwise installation, you have to or take your shoes off, or use covers. The room is totally white, and you can definitely hear those 360 clocks. We kept wondering what if one starts to run out of battery, hahah!


A museum is a perfect entertainment on rainy days, and Modun definitely was a good one. Are you familiar with the work of Wim Delvoye?
