Spring cravings

During the past years, I have somehow changed from the girl who did a crazy amount of shopping (girls still remember that huge walk-in closet I had full of clothes and shoes in Joensuu?) to someone who is buying less and less. For sure it has a lot to do with the fact, that I have found more my own style, but also I value so different things nowadays. I want to buy less and think about the quality. And most of all, I am trying to build my closet in a way, that everything I have there, is my favourite. This has lead to a situation where I plan so much more what I am buying. I am not saying I am not doing spontaneous shopping, but when I have a list in my mind, I end up buying fewer clothes which are not fitting with my needs, and existing pieces. So what do I have in my spring cravings list?

The biggest craving at the moment is a pair of crazy shiny silver sneakers. Even glitter sneakers could be nice, but let’s see what I will find! Even though I am all black everything black kind of girl, blush pink and softer tones have caught my eye. Maybe a t-shirt in old rose colour, or even a jacket? I am also in a need of easy and simple everyday shirts, and white feels like a good idea right now. I absolutely love my vintage Ray-Bans, but at the moment I want sunglasses which are bigger, softer and little less classy. Probably & Other Stories will give me a solution to this, as I saw a lot of nice sunnies there the past week. And lastly, but definitely, not least I am searching silver-toned glitter socks. They will work perfectly with my Jeffrey Campbell cut out boots (similar to these ones) I think.

What’s on your spring shopping list?

Mysterious Moses Bridge

During our stay in The Netherlands, we made so many travelling plans with Lady A, that it is not a surprise in the end, that we could not visit them all. We should have been travelling several days a week to see everything. I am especially sad about all the beautiful castles we didn’t see in the end, but at least now we have many reasons to go back. I had actually made relatively little planning beforehand, and there was only one place I had decided to visit. And that place was mysterious Moses Bridge.

One cold Sunday morning we took a train with Lady A to Bergen op Zoom, and continued our journey with a bus to Halsteren. From the bus stop, we had to walk about 15 to 20 minutes, before arriving at Fort de Roovere. And there it was, Moses Bridge. Middle of nowhere, kind of hiding and surrounded by silence and peace. So simple, yet so miraculous.

Moses Bridge is work of RI&AD Architecten, and designed to blend in with the outlines of the landscape. This makes the bridge kind of invisible from many directions, as the water comes all they way to the edges. You get the feeling you are walking middle of parted water. The sunken bridge is made from sustainable Accoya wood which is reducing environmental impact but still is high in performance. I always like this kind of solutions and find it interesting to read details after visiting interesting places.

As you can see from the photos, the weather was amazing the day we visited the bridge. It was little chilly, but the sun was shining and luckily we had enough clothes with us. I can imagine that the bridge is attracting most of the visitors during the summer season, as it is an outdoor activity. And for this reason, it was actually kind of perfect time to go there, as there were only a few others visiting the bridge same time. To be honest, it is not that easy to reach this place with public transportation, so I am not sure how many tourists, in the end, visits the place. There is not too much more to see than the bridge, and I think most of the people were locals doing their Sunday walk.

Even though it took us a lot more time to travel to this place than we ended up spending time there, I am extremely happy we did it. It was fascinating and I could have just enjoyed the silence there and gaze the frozen water. I understand the design of the bridge, but same time I keep wondering why the water does not flow over the edges. Or maybe sometimes it does? How cool it would be to see the bridge when it is raining?

The forest around was by the way so beautiful as everything was little frosty. I love the fact, that spring is here and summer is coming, but nature is SO beautiful when there is soft frost everywhere. And who wouldn’t love those soft tones also?

Lady A. thank you for the trip, will always remember it!

Scent of memories and flowers

Rituals perfume

I associate certain scents to memories, places and people. It’s funny, as there are scents I always associate with certain situations in my life, and sometimes they totally surprise me. On those surprises, I usually start smiling, as it is funny how strongly unexpectedly a scent can bring back memories. Example every time I smell Burberry perfumes I go back to high school, Vaseline always reminds me of my late grandmother and Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle my time in Italy with my ex-fiance. And because I associate especially certain perfumes strongly to certain moments, every now and then its time to find a new perfume. And create new memories right?

I have come across with Rituals every now and then in airports. I have always been fascinated how beautiful their products are, and how fresh, yet exciting the scents are. I am not a big airport shopper, and for some reason never ended up buying their products. Until I moved to the Netherlands, and their BEAUTIFUL boutiques were everywhere. I finally had more time to get to know what kind of products they have and experience their good service.

I was looking for a new perfume after moving to Breda, as I had taken with me my long time favourite perfume from Dior, but it was almost empty. And this is how I found my new favourite scent, now full of memories. Rituals have quite many different perfumes, and I ended up choosing for myself Fleurs De L´Himalaya. It is fresh yet strong and has a mix of wild orchid, sophisticated Himalayan peony and touch of cotton musk. It kind of captures the flowery scent I love, but without being too sweet.

The bottle looks simply beautiful, and the wooden cork gives a nice contrast. I love that they have also travel size available. It is so nice that I can carry the mini bottle with me where ever I go, and I don’t have to play with refillable travel bottles. And actually, I bought first the travel size, as I wanted to be sure I actually like the perfume enough to buy the bigger bottle. The prices are affordable, but still, I don’t want to buy something I will not use in the end. The smaller size is also nice if you want to buy another perfume for “special” occasions. When I bought the bigger bottle, I got as a gift a travel size bottle of Voyage en Inde, which was perfect for the holiday season, but too strong for everyday use for me.

And the memories I associate to this? Netherlands, careless days, laughter, new beginnings and and… Have a beautiful Sunday!
